February 26, 2017 – Sochi – Krasnaya Polyana – the Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex hosted the final stage of the ski races for men. Gold was captured by the Russian team consisting of Sergeant Artyom Maltsev and Lieutenant Nikolay Morilov: athletes showed the result of 20 minutes 36 seconds. A second place was taken by the athletes from France Private Paul Gaulabre and Private Clement Arnaud, who fell behind the leaders by only one tenth of a second. The third were the Finnish riders Private Kusti Kittilä and Juho Mikkonen, who came to the finish line in 20 minutes 37 seconds.

“We chose great ski. I am happy for myself and for the team. This finish is very good for me. It is long and hard, I was waiting for it”, – said Nikolay Morilov, winner of the race. “I really liked it, my challenge was to be in a group, I coped with it, and as a result it all turned out well for me and Nikolay”, – said Denis Maltsev.

“This track is very difficult, there are ups in it, and it takes place in a beautiful location, the path to the finish line is long. We are pleased with the results, the Russian team was strong. I think they are really stronger than us. Finish turned out to be tense”, – said Private Paul Gaulabre, who came second.

Men’s race was held in two stages: first, there was the race by the subgroups, which was attended by 22 teams, and in the afternoon the final match among the top 10 teams started. The Russian team at this competition was represented by two men’s teams: the winners of the individual sprint are Senior sergeant Alexey Chervotkin and Private Denis Spitsov, as well as Sergeant Artyom Maltsev and Lieutenant Nikolay Morilov.

The 3rd CISM World Winter Games will be held from February 22 to February 28, 2017, in Sochi. It is expected that during the Games, 44 sets of medals will be awarded in the individual and team competitions. The sports program will consist of seven sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, orienteering on skis, ski-mountaineering, sports rock-climbing indoors and short track.

The Opening Ceremony of the Games will be held on February 24, 2017 on the basis of “Ice Cube” Multifunctional Sport Arena.

CISM World Winter Games is a multi-sport event for the military athletes that is held once in four years. CISM World Summer Games are held since 1995,

and the Winter Games — since 2010. During this time, 6 Summer Military Olympic Games and 2 Winter Military Olympic Games were conducted, in 2010 in Aosta (Italy) and in 2013 in Annecy (France). Russia won the right to host the 3rd CISM World Winter Games in 2017 at the 70th General Assembly of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), held on May 22, 2015 in Kuwait.

As of today, the International Military Sports Council (CISM) is the largest sports organization after the International Olympic Committee and the International University Sports Federation. Its main purpose is to establish ties between the armed forces of different countries in the field of sport and physical education.
