February 26, 2017 – Sochi – “Laura” Cross-country Ski and Biathlon Center – Orienteering sprint among men and women was held today in “Laura” Ski and Biathlon Center. Warrant officer Tatyana Oborina was the first in the short race with the time of 17 minutes and 54 seconds. Warrant officer Mariya Kechkina, the winner of middle range race, came to the finish second with the result of 18 minutes and 11 seconds, and Private Anastasiya Kravchenko won a bronze medal with the result of 18 minutes 55 seconds.

“Maria is a very serious competitor. I probably had luck on my side. I am glad I was the first. We are friends, of course, but when it comes to the race – we are all competitors. The snow was soft but it was a pleasure to be on the wide ski trail”, – Tatyana Oborina, the winner of the race, said.

“Silver is a good result. Today I made only one mistake and was not the first one. The passing of the distance was not ideal but, in general, I am satisfied with the race”, said Warrant officer Maria Kechkina.

“The competing was serious, including the athletes from other countries. We saw in practice that it was very hard to run in “Laura” . The altitude and the weather have big impact, – concluded Private Anastasiya Kravchenko.

The athletes competed on the 2500 meters long race with 105 meters general altitude gain. During the night 30 centimeters more of snow fell, so that the conditions of the race were quite difficult especially in the orienting, because the race tracks were soft in the woodland.
