Sochi is one of the major transport and logistic centres of Russia and has perfect highways, railway and seaways.

How to get to Sochi by plane

Location

Today international airport in Sochi is among 10 leading Russian airports on a number of the passenger traffic on internal and international flights. 40 airlines are making regular and charter flights in 60 directions.

Though the range of international flights from Sochi airport is not very diverse. There are scheduled regular flights to Minsk, Tashkent, Erevan and Istanbul. Sochi international airport is located in 30 km southwest to the centre of Sochi in Adler (part of the Big Sochi area).

How to get to Sochi by train

Location

It takes about 40 hours to get from Moscow to Sochi by train.

Direct trains to Sochi come from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and more than 50 other Russian cities. Railway station in Sochi is located almost in the very centre of the city.

How to get to Sochi by car

Location

There is a state highway A147 (M27) running through Sochi. Driving to Sochi by car has a number of advantages over getting to the city with train or plane. Car drive gives an opportunity to see everything, visit different places and stay independent from transport schedule.

The most comfortable way to drive includes staying overnight in Krasnodar area and setting up to Sochi early in the morning. The trip will take a bit more than 300 km, which you would cover in 5-6 hours and arrive to Sochi during daytime. There is no problem with petrol stations, they are to be found regularly on the whole way to Sochi and in the city itself.

How to get to Sochi by sea

Location

Sochi seaport is the biggest passenger port on the Black sea.

One can get to Sochi seaport by ships from Batumi (Adjara), Gagra (Abkhazia) or Trabzon (Turkey).

Distance from the seaport to the railway station is 1.5 km, to the international airport – 35 km and to the city centre – 1 km.

Transport

Organizers of the 3rd Winter Military World Games will provide all participants of the competitions with transport from the place of arrival to the places of residence and will also provide transport to the competition and training facilities and on the way back.

For transportation of sports equipment and also baggage of the arriving and departing participants, vans with a loading capacity up to 1.5 t will be involved. The traffic route of freight vehicles matches the route of transfer of the participants from the place of arrival to the place of residence and back.

Transport services for the Games give the opportunity to all accredited parties whose accreditation grants the right of moving on the official transport of the Games to move freely between all official locations of the Games and sporting venues.

For the purposes of moving by official transport of the Games, the accreditation badge should have the transport code:

T1 – Transport for sportsmen and members of delegations

T2 – Transport for judiciary establishment

T3 – All accredited parties with the right to use the official transport

T4 – VIP

Each official vehicle should also have the specified transport code.

 

All motor transport providing transfer of the participants and guests should have an admission card on the vehicle windshield. It identifies it as an accredited vehicle that has passed preliminary testing and complies with safety regulations. The transport admission card allows the car to use the parking places provided by the organizers of the Games and to arrange transfer to accommodation facilities and sporting venues — the Bolshoy Ice Dome, Iceberg Skating Palace, “Imeretinsky” Hotel, facilities of the mountain and tourist complex Laura, and facilities of the Rosa Khutor resort.

Participants with VIP-status have the opportunity to order an individual car. For this purpose, it is necessary to approach an information table of the Games located in the reception zone of each official location and fill out the application form.

Transfers to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games

On February 24th and 27th, on the days of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games, transfers of delegations and judges on the routes will be organized:

  • NSKD “Laura” — MFK Arena “Ice Cube” — NSKD “Laura”;
  • NSKD “Rosa Dolina” — MFK Arena “Ice Cube” — NSKD “Rosa Dolina”;
  • “Imeretinsky” hotel — MFK Arena “Ice Cube” — “Imeretinsky” Hotel.

Transfers from the mountain cluster will depart at 17:30–18:00, from the coast cluster — at 18:30–19:00. Return trips after the end of the ceremonies are planned at 0:30–1:00.
